LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Stand Up for Siskiyou County
February 25, 2025
I am writing today to urge you to stand up for Siskiyou County citizens who are losing their jobs, their healthcare, their emergency food sources, their conservation and fire prevention projects and other federal services we need and depend on. Watching the new federal government slash and burn with haphazard results has me very concerned.
What is the goal of all this chaos? Where are we headed?
I would offer that we are not going to recreate some halcyon cowboy logger cultural time warp. What decade will we wake up in? The 1850’s when miners and native tribes clashed over beaver, fish, water and gold? Or when Native Americans were hung from our lampposts? The 1880’s when Chinese miners were routinely burned out of our town? The 1920’s of Jim Crow when white citizens turned on an African American family because they ran out of gas on our roads? The 1950’s when McCarthyism ran roughshod over anyone with different opinions? The 1970’s when women finally got to have their own checking accounts? Those were the bad old days.
The truth is we are not going back to any of those decades, no matter how nostalgic one may be for ‘a simpler’ time. We are going to go forward, and we must go forward by setting a framework for yes diversity, equity and inclusion, even if it is contentious and alarming. Liberty without justice is a form of privilege.
May I suggest that true leadership will embrace these truths and show courage and ethics for Siskiyou County. I hope that is your goal as well.

You may take your Marxist ideology, DEI and CRT and put it where the sun doesn’t shine. It’s over, live without it.
Thanks Ayn for speaking up, now we wait to see if our County leaders will do the same for us. We are in dangerous times and it gets worse daily.
The stated goal of DOGE is to get rid of waste. I think it’s fair to be critical of the method being used; too much, too fast w/o congressional ovesite?
