By Siskiyou County Sheriff Search and Rescue

This weekend, the Siskiyou County Search and Rescue (SAR) team bundled up and hit the snowy slopes for a excellent winter rescue training. The team began by refreshing their avalanche search skills, utilizing transceivers, probes, and shovels to locate buried subjects. During an avalanche search, seconds matter, and a rapid, adept use of the search tools is a critical skill for rescuers and recreators alike.

Next, the team practiced patient packaging and transport in a litter and sked across snowy and icy terrain, as well as reviewed the common kinds of wintertime injuries that team members would need to be treated in the field.
It was a great training for several new and seasoned SAR members to refresh their skills and simulate real search scenarios with winter rescue equipment. If work like this interests you, then consider joining our team!
