“The impossible is what we do best,” — Donald J. Trump “The golden age has just begun.”
In his second inaugural address, President Donald Trump announced an ambitious series of executive orders aimed at reshaping American policy on immigration, energy, and international relations.
“The golden age of America begins right now,” Trump declared, outlining plans that would significantly alter both domestic and foreign policy. “From this day forward, our country will flourish.”
The President announced his intention to declare a national emergency at the southern border, promising unprecedented levels of immigration enforcement and deportation of individuals he termed “criminal immigrants.” This aligns with his campaign’s emphasis on border security and immigration control, which has been a cornerstone of his political platform since his first presidential run.
On the economic front, Trump unveiled plans to establish an “External Revenue Service” designed to impose tariffs on foreign goods. This move comes as many Americans continue to express concerns about inflation and rising prices, though Trump acknowledged post-election that lowering prices would be “hard.”
In a significant shift in energy policy, the President said he would declare a “national energy emergency,” promising to rescind both the Green New Deal and electric vehicle mandate. These actions reflect his broader stance on environmental regulations and fossil fuel development.
The address also touched on social issues, with Trump announcing a policy recognizing only two genders – “male and female.” This declaration follows heated debates over LGBTQ+ rights during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Among the more unexpected announcements were plans to rename several geographic landmarks, including changing the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, reverting Mt. Denali to its former name Mt. McKinley, and asserting control over the Panama Canal.
Throughout his speech, Trump emphasized themes of American prosperity and global competition, stating that the country would be the “envy of the world” and would no longer be “taken advantage of.” He also addressed concerns about political division, expressing his desire to be remembered as “a peacemaker and a unifier.”
These proposed executive actions have already generated significant discussion, as many of the policies do not enjoy universal support among the American public. The implementation and potential legal challenges to these executive orders remain to be seen as the administration moves forward with its agenda.
The speech underscored Trump’s continued focus on the cultural and immigration issues that first propelled his political ascendancy, while introducing new elements that suggest an even broader approach to executive authority in his second term.
