Fairchild Medical Center Conducts Large-Scale Active Shooter Drill

Fairchild Medical Healthcare Safety Exercise:

In a proactive step to enhance emergency preparedness, Fairchild Medical Center Clinic in Yreka, California executed a comprehensive active shooter drill today at 11:00 AM, bringing together more than 40 staff members and multiple emergency response agencies from across Siskiyou County.

The carefully planned exercise, which included simulated gunfire within the clinic, tested the facility’s implementation of the Run, Hide, Fight protocol – a nationally recognized response strategy for active shooter situations. Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to simulated mass casualties, allowing them to practice their critical response procedures in real-time conditions.

“This drill represents the culmination of six months of detailed multi-agency planning,” explained a Fairchild Medical Center representative. “With the increasing occurrence of active shooter incidents in healthcare settings nationwide, our Hazard Vulnerability Analysis identified this as a crucial area for preparatory training.”

The exercise demonstrated unprecedented collaboration among local and state agencies. Participating organizations included the Siskiyou County Office of Emergency Services, California Highway Patrol – Yreka Division, Yreka Police and Fire Departments, and multiple emergency medical response teams. The California Office of Emergency Services and Cal Fire Region III Medical Health Specialists provided additional support and oversight.

Following the exercise, participating agencies will conduct a thorough review to share lessons learned and identify areas for improvement. This analysis will help refine emergency response protocols not only for Fairchild Medical Center but potentially for other healthcare facilities across the region.

The drill underscores Fairchild Medical Center’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety for its patients, staff, and the broader Siskiyou County community.
