Dynamic Duo Der and Mur’s Deadly Farm Rampage Leads to Consequences

ETNA – What began as an escape from their city residence ended in devastating losses for local livestock after two dogs embarked on a destructive mile-long journey through rural properties. Der and Mur, residing within Etna city limits, left a trail of carnage that resulted in multiple livestock fatalities and property damage.

The deadly rampage claimed the lives of two ducks and four sheep, with several additional waterfowl suffering mauling injuries before the dogs encountered some wild pigs. The wild pigs proved more formidable adversaries, effectively ending the dogs’ destructive path through the countryside.

While criminal charges have been withheld, the dogs’ owner has assumed financial responsibility for the substantial damages. Der and Mur now face strict enforcement of existing animal control regulations, requiring constant owner supervision. This administrative action carries potential fines and remains subject to judicial review.

Etna Police Department Chief Short highlighted the significance of animal-related incidents in their jurisdiction, noting they comprise approximately 80 percent of service calls. “Our primary focus is preventing any recurrence while maintaining proper documentation of the incident,” Chief Short explained.

Although Der and Mur have no history of human aggression, law enforcement officials have issued a clear warning: any future incidents will trigger a formal hearing to evaluate their classification as potentially dangerous or vicious dogs. The gravity of this initial incident underscores the serious consequences that could follow additional violations.

Currently, the two Etna residents remain under stringent oversight, a direct result of their deadly agricultural expedition that highlighted the devastating potential of unsupervised pets in rural communities.
