Klamath River Project Adult Fish Counting Facility Update – October 11, 2024

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has released its latest in-season update for the Klamath River Project Adult Fish Counting Facility. This update provides preliminary 2024 returns of Fall-run Chinook Salmon and Coho Salmon to each counting facility.

Operational Status and Counts

Shasta River

    • Operational since: August 29, 2024
    • Counts through October 9, 2024:
      • Adult Chinook Salmon: 817
      • Adult Coho Salmon: 0

    Bogus Creek

      • Operational since: September 5, 2024
      • Counts through October 9, 2024:
        • Adult Chinook Salmon: 9
        • Adult Coho Salmon: 0

      Scott River

        • Operational since: September 13, 2024
        • Counts through October 9, 2024:
          • Adult Chinook Salmon: 23
          • Adult Coho Salmon: 0

        Jenny Creek

          • Operational since: September 26, 2024
          • Counts through October 4, 2024:
            • Chinook Salmon: 0
            • Coho Salmon: 0
            • Adult lamprey (>16″): 1

          Shovel Creek

            • Not yet operational

            Station Locations

            • Shasta River station: Located approximately 600 feet from the confluence with the Klamath River, serving as a census for the entire Shasta River.
            • Scott River station: Located 18 miles upstream of the confluence with the Klamath River.
            • Bogus Creek station: Located 0.25 miles upstream of the confluence with the Klamath River.

            Important Notes

            • These are preliminary in-season updates, and data will be provided as it becomes available throughout the season.
            • Significant fractions of the adult salmonid populations in the Scott River and Bogus Creek may spawn downstream of the counting stations.
            • This update does not report the spawning escapement observed downstream of these stations.
            • Final reports detailing the total escapement to each river will be available after the data is finalized.
