October 10, 2024 – A rapidly spreading wildfire, dubbed the Shoe Fire, has grown to 400 acres in the Sulanharas Creek drainage near Madrone Campground on the Shasta Lake District. The blaze, first reported at 1:18 PM October 9th, is being driven by timber fuels and steep topography, threatening homes and structures in the area.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for residents in Madrone, Wheeler Ranch, and Fenders Ferry Road areas. Officials urge those in affected zones to check the Genasys Protect website (https://protect.genasys.com/) for the most up-to-date evacuation orders.

A hard closure is in effect on Fenders Ferry Road (Forest Road 27), rendering Madrone campground inaccessible from both sides.

Fire crews from the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, Cal Fire, and local fire departments are battling the blaze. Resources deployed include engines, helicopters, water tenders, and ground crews. Additional firefighters are en route to reinforce efforts throughout the night.

The fire is primarily spreading northward, with firefighters facing challenges from the steep terrain and dry conditions. While no heavy winds have been reported, the area is experiencing low relative humidity, exacerbating fire conditions.

As of the latest update, no injuries or structure losses have been reported. However, authorities stress the dynamic nature of the situation and urge the public, including hunters and OHV riders, to stay clear of the area and heed all evacuation orders and road closures.

For the latest information, residents are advised to follow the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Facebook page or visit the Shoe Fire’s InciWeb page at https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incident-information/cashf-shoe-fire.
