OPEN LETTER: just can’t get the “Welcome to Scott Valley–Trump Country” sign off my mind

Just can’t get the sign off my mind. After some looking into it yesterday, someone said that the property is private. I guess it is not just a matter of private property rights and free speech or even a statement of support for the candidate of your choice (which is perfectly fine and which has been installed below that sign for years), but the new sign is now an IMPLICATION that the entire Scott Valley community (including both citizens and businesses) subscribe to the “Trump Country” mentality and tactics. It represents our lovely community in a bad light. The sign might as well say “Welcome to Scott Valley, Now Leave.” It never is helpful when a resident of our Valley installs something that takes the whole valley to a dark place.

    Thank you for saying that..! I have lived here for 69 years and am not a Trump fan. Most people I know are not Trump fans.

  3. I agree with Terri. It’s not right to lump an entire community into being supporters of a candidate, especially if a good portion of them are not. I voted for Trump. Then I watched in horror as he surrounded himself with swamp douchebags, completely dropped the Hillary investigation, raised the debt by $8 Trillion, didn’t build the wall and have Mexico pay for it, among many other broken promises. Trump fans so conveniently forget that it was HE who pushed the FDA to release the deadliest “vaccine” in history (and has never once disavowed it), AND it was HE who locked down the country (“15 days to slow the spread”) which destroyed countless of our local businesses. Do I think the other party is better? No, absolutely not. I do not support ANY of these people. Voting for the “lesser of the evils” is what has gotten America into the mess it’s in now. Continuing to cheerlead for a terrible candidate solely because he or she is supposedly “better than” the other terrible candidate, is a losing strategy.

    According to the Declaration of Independence, “That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it.” Americans are not free. We are overworked, underpaid, wildly overtaxed, over regulated, over controlled. Anyone who thinks everything will be fine as soon as their bought and paid for puppet president gets in, is living in la-la-land.
