The Siskiyou Golden Fair was held August 7-11, 2024, and junior livestock exhibitors were happy to be on the fairground in Yreka for the 2024 event as the Shelley Fire Camp vacated the grounds just five days before the first entries arrived in the still exhibits.  Timely rains and aggressive firefighting allowed for enough time to prepare the Yreka facility to host “A Country Fair with a Golden Flare” as planned. The 10th District Junior Livestock Auction Committee worked tirelessly throughout the year to prepare for the 2024 auctions. In 2020, the committee moved to two auctions – one on Saturday Night and the traditional Sunday Morning auction for the remaining sale lots with an option for online bidding.

In 2024, the 10th DAA Junior Livestock Auction reached another record total – and surpassed 1.3 million for the first time – $1,308,256.65, surpassing last year’s record of 1,211,102.22. 2022 raised $1,200,452.93 at the Jackson County Expo where we were evacuated because of the McKinney Fire. Averages for each specie were as follows: Ag Mechanics – $1588.94 per lot, Rabbits – $51.34 per pound, Turkeys – $48.85 per pound, Chickens – $107.08 per pound, Goats – $22.93 per pound, Lambs – $28.51 per pound, Swine – $14.87 per pound, Dairy Heifers – $5502.71 per head, Commercial Beef Heifers – $5854.35 per head, Registered Beef Heifers – $7106.57 per head, and Steers – $6.36 per pound. 302 total lots were sold with a lot average of 4,311.98 per lot, an increase of 19 lots and $52.46 per lot over the 2023 record setting sale.

Planning is underway for the 2025 Siskiyou Golden Fair which will be the 100th Anniversary of the fairground located at 1712 Fairlane Road in Yreka. The fair began in Fort Jones California in 1859, moved to Yreka in 1866 and to the present location in 1925 when the land was purchased and donated to Siskiyou County after a bond was passed to build the original Grand Hall that housed the fair and horse racing track grandstand.
