The first annual Yreka Kids Day, held at Miner Street Park in Yreka, California, proved to be a resounding success, bringing together families and community organizations for a day of fun and engagement. Spearheaded by Owen Jones of Yreka Community Center, the event was a collaborative effort between various local service groups.

Attendees enjoyed a wide array of activities, including a BBQ, arts and crafts, face painting, and a bounce house obstacle course. The event also featured a popular raffle with prizes donated by both local and out-of-county businesses, demonstrating widespread support for the community’s youth.
Key participants included the Siskiyou Community Resource Collaborative, YCRC, SCBHS, and Siskiyou County Community Outreach Department of Public Health, Behavioral Health, and the Scott Valley Resource Center were also present, along with representatives from the WIC (Women, Infant, Children) program, Y.E.S (youth empowerment services) and First Five. Various other services like Yreka Food Bank, Lions Club, North American Mental Health Services from Eureka-Redding office, lastly a Group of Women Educators.
Local businesses such as Broadway Storage and Gifts contributed to the event’s success, while larger corporations like Mechanics Bank, Home Depot, and Harry & David, and Cinemark also showed their support. The involvement of out-of-area attractions like ScienceWorks in Ashland, Oregon Center for Creative Learning in Medford and Turtle Bay in Redding supporting the regional impact of the event.
With its focus on family fun and community engagement at no cost to attendees, the 1st Annual Yreka Kids Day set a promising precedent for future events, fostering a spirit of unity and support for the youth of Siskiyou County.
