A grand opening ceremony and tour was held at the long anticipated and newly finished Crossroads housing facility. Sarah Collard, Director of Health Services for the County of Siskiyou began the ceremony speaking first, tthen followed by Elizabeth Matsumoto – Director of Development, David Dologite – Director of Acquisitions, James Vossoughi – Executive Director, Chase Community Development Banking. Corey Middleton – Yreka Mayor, and Nancy Ogren, Vice Chair – Siskiyou Board of Supervisors, were the speakers at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The total cost of development from the quick facts sheet provided at the event list a total cost of approximately 19.7 million and has 24 No Place Like Home (NPLH) units. Also 25 low income units either one or two bedroom and one unit for onsite manager’s unit.
The cost of constructing Siskiyou Crossroads affordable housing is $19,700,000, apartments for 49 people, the per-unit cost would be approximately $402,041. This falls within the range of construction costs seen in some urban areas but may be on the higher end compared to others. For example:
- In Los Angeles, the budget might be insufficient, as the median cost per unit is around $600,000.
- In Chicago, the budget would be more than adequate, given the average cost of $200,000 per unit.
NPLH units are furnished complete with a bed. Title 24 Building Standards with motion sensor lighting, basic Wi-Fi in every room, instant hot water heaters and smart thermostats.
Siskiyou Crossroads is complete with community room, garden area, picnic area with BBQ and fire pit, and a laundry room. Green building features include energy star appliance and solar panels.
The target income is households at or below 30% – 60% of the area median income depending on the unit. 30% of your income for NPLH units, $825 to $1188 for a low-income unit.
