#DonomoreFire Near Donomore Cabin, S/E of Donomore Peak along the CA/OR Border, Siskiyou County.

Lightning fire update: Wednesday July 17, 2024

Several new fire starts on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest have resulted from lightning strikes across the region over the last two days.

On the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District, the Donomore Fire is burning near the California border. It is currently estimated at 45 acres. The fire remained very active overnight, causing several spot fires outside of lines as firefighters worked through the night to slow fire spread, Multiple 20 person crews, engines and aircraft are assigned to the incident.

Additional smoke reports and fire starts on the SMRD have resources assigned to locate and contain them today.

High Cascades Ranger District sent smoke jumpers and an engine to one new fire start which is being mopped up today. Crews are working to locate additional smoke reports on HCRD today.

Wild Rivers Ranger District had reports of two new starts. The Bear Fire was located and contained at one-quarter of an acre. Firefighters continue to attempt to locate the second report of smoke.

Gold Beach Ranger District received reports of two new starts as well. The Big Craggies Fire is burning in extremely rugged, remote terrain, inaccessible by ground. An order for rappellers has been placed to respond to this new start. Crews have been unable to locate the additional smoke report but aerial and ground reconnaissance will continue today.
