Through the years, Dunsmuir’s Railroad Days has been called other names like Canyon Days, or River Daze, but through the years, it has come back to its original title celebrating the town’s main attraction which it was built upon.
Over the weekend of June 7th, 8th, and 9th, the streets were filled with people enjoying the variety of events, contests, Kids’ Zone play area, tours, contests and food and craft booths, along with music and dancing in the downtown area.
According to Sandra Hood, the Railroad Days’ director and coordinator, this event has skipped a few years during WWII, Vietnam war, and Covid, but it has been going on for about 81 years. It was started by Southern Pacific Railroad employees for their families and has elevated through the years.

Live music and dancing started on Friday evening. The parade that featured 25 different organizations that was led by the American Legion Post 92 Color Guard, was held on Saturday down Dunsmuir Ave.

People cheered on the parade as children dashed for the candy that was tossed by the parade participants.

This year’s Grand Marshal was Pat O’Conner being driven by Dunsmuir’s favorite lawyer David Hicks in his 1999 Porsche’ Boxster followed by Dunsmuir’s Mayor Michael Clarno in Blaze Barns’ 2002 Porsche’ Boxster.

Others in the parade included RR Days Scholarship winner; Abagel Pawel being driven by Mandy Leahy, Woodsy Owl and Smokey Bear with the Forest Service, all the Little Engineers that participated in the Little Engineer Contest.

To find out who applied to run for the open City Council positions this year, call the county clerk’s office.
For the Little Engineer Contest, Sandra Hood interviews the contestants all dressed up in conductor uniforms and has them either sing a song, tell a joke or story and answer questions (or have the family answer if the children are too young) about train safety.

Of the many performances on the stage by the City Hall, including the Ayesha’s Oasis Dance Company, there were 12 different musical performers.
