Splash & Dash Makes a Splash for Veterans on Memorial Day
Yreka, CA – Local car wash Splash & Dash showed its support for veterans this past Memorial Day, May 27th, 2024, with a special event dedicated to giving back. Owner John Richter pledged $3 from every wash to be split evenly amongst three local veterans’ organizations: Siskiyou County Veteran Services, the American Legion, and the Veterans Assistance Program.
The event saw a strong turnout, representatives from each organization met up at the Evergreen Veterans Cemetery Memorial area to accept the donations. Bob Singleton and Jerry Johnson of American Legion Post #122, Mark Dean of the Veterans Leadership Council, and Richard Shaffer, president of the Veteran Assistance Program, were all in attendance. In a heartwarming gesture of solidarity, Mark Dean, the Veterans Leadership Council donated their share of the proceeds, an adding $250, to the American Legions $250.
The American Legion has a long-standing history of advocating for veterans’ rights, providing mentorship, and their families through various programs, services, and lobbying efforts.. They also played a leading role in drafting and passing the Servicemen’s Readjustment Act of 1944, commonly known as the “G.I. Bill”.
Richard Shaffer, the president of the Veteran Assistance Program, expressed his gratitude for Splash & Dash’s generosity. The Veteran Assistance Program focuses on assistance, support, and opportunities to veterans in need, helping them overcome challenges and build stable, fulfilling lives.
“It was a great opportunity to give back and show our appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans,” stated Richter.The Memorial Day car wash was a unique way to engage the community in supporting those who have served, proving that a clean car can contribute to a worthy cause.
