Water Reductions in the Klamath Basin Devastate Jobs and Local Economy

Tri-Counties Press Release
Klamath County, OR and Siskiyou and Modoc Counties, CA

A recent study conducted by Oregon State University (OSU) (funded in part by Klamath County) highlights the devastating regional economic impacts from water shortages for farms and ranches in the Upper Klamath Basin.

According to the study, the crops and livestock grown and raised in the Upper Klamath Basin are worth approximately $368 million annually, generating $176.5 million in income for 3,180 full- and part-time employees. This economic activity is directly threatened by the increasing restrictions on farmersโ€™ and ranchersโ€™ ability to water their crops and livestock.
