
Head-on crash results in three fatalities.
On Friday, December 29, 2023, at approximately 1224 hours, Yreka Area CHP Units responded to a head-on collision on Copco Road east of Salmon Street. Based on the preliminary investigation, the following was determined:
Party #1 (Pending) was traveling westbound on Copco Rd. east of Salmon St. in a Dodge Ram 1500. Party #2 (Pending) was traveling eastbound on Copco Rd. in a Chrysler Pacifica was approaching from the opposite direction. As Party #1 (Pending) traveled westbound, through a sweeping curve in the roadway, they caused or allowed the Dodge to drift to the left, over the painted solid double yellow center lines, into the eastbound lane, where the front of the Dodge collided with the front of the Chrysler. Party #1 (Pending) sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. Party #2 (Pending) and his right front passenger (Pending) both sustained fatal injuries and were declared deceased at the scene. All four of Party #2’s (Pending) juvenile passengers were transported to Fairchild Medical Center, for treatment of their injuries. Juveniles #1 and #2 both sustained major injuries and Juveniles #3 and #4 both sustained minor injuries.
Names are withheld to allow next of kin notification and will be released only through the Siskiyou County Coroner’s Office.
