North Shore RX Burn
Yreka, Ca- CAL FIRE will be conducting a hazard reduction burn scheduled for October 19-21, 2023, west of Mt. Shasta City off North Shore Rd. The specific burn date may be subject to change based on weather conditions as well as resource availability. The proposed prescribed broadcast burn is planned for 20 acres of grass, brush, and timber. The project will be separated into manageable sections that will be burned when climate conditions are optimal ensuring control, limiting escape, and minimizing poor air quality. If there are any indications that the burn cannot be conducted in a safe manner, such as high winds or other fire activity, the burn will be rescheduled.
The control burn will start at approximately 10:00 A.M. and be completed by 7:00 P.M. for two to three days to complete the project. Residents should expect to see smoke during the burn operations throughout Mt. Shasta City and areas around Lake Siskiyou.
The Prescribed burn will:
- Reduce dead and down fuels, reducing the risk of a devastating wildfire.
- Improve wildlife habitat, watershed value and range improvement.
- Improve ingress and egress access for the public and emergency responders.
