Obituary

Surrounded by family on April 11th, 2023, Lorraine Robles Fleck died peacefully in her home in Etna and was able to join in Heaven her husband, Gary Fleck, parents, and sister, Lizzie.

Lori was born in Los Angeles on June 10, 1948 to Mary Alice Robles and Henry Robles.  Not only the oldest of 6 children, she was also the oldest of all her cousins, and there were many.  This was the stepstone to her lifelong skills of organizing, managing, and her call to civic duty and the service of others.

Lori was a musician at Pioneer High School in Whittier, CA playing bass fiddle, an instrument twice the size as her. She participated in school musicals and the drill team.  Upon graduating, Class of ‘66, Lori attended Rio Hondo College studying business administration, laying the foundation for her service at Brynn Marr Hospital in North Carolina as Executive Administrative Assistant. As a staunch supporter of youth development, she participated in numerous seasons for school and recreational sports and inter-national student exchange programs.

After marrying the love of her life, and settling in Etna in 1992, she jumped right into serving her community and continued her outreach to youth. Lori worked for Siskiyou County for 19 years, retiring November 15, 2012.  She joined Rotary Club of Scott Valley in 2001 and fully embraced the “Service Above Self” theme.  Lori was an integral part of every local event and fundraiser.  She held several positions locally and within her district.  She participated in an international project, installing technology in a small school in Salcedo, Dominican Republic.  Upon retirement, Lori served on Etna City Council in 2012 – 2022 with only a 2 year break. Lori immersed herself with youth support through Interact Club, Camp RYLA, Rotary Youth Exchange, Friends of the Pool, PAL and welcomed any opportunity to open her home to those in need, whether it be an individual hiking through the PCT or a whole basketball team.

She is survived by her children: Chris (Gina) Schnedler, Henry (Linda) Schnedler, Dana (Eddie) Jackson, Darren (Lauren) Fleck, Brent (Jaime) Fleck, Neil (Sara) Fleck, and Emily Humphrey-Zupetz.

Lori is also survived by her sisters Kathleen (Marty) Dekramer, Teresa (Darell) Elkin, and Renee Robles and brother Steve Robles; her grandchildren Ashley Martin, Tyler and Hank Schnedler, Justine Buttz, Silas Jackson, Zaya and Cooper Fleck, Annabelle and Lila Fleck, Addison, Cash, Cosette and JJ Fleck; her great-grandchildren Lilly Volmer, Micah and Norah Martin, Brody Schnedler, and Ryann Schnedler; and much loved nieces and nephews: Cameron Meraz, Sharon Lashley, Jeff and Jay Fleck, Kyle, Alec and Sean DeKramer, Meka Vasquez, Tiffany Vargas, Matthew and Bethany Elkin, and Ashley Robles.

A private memorial graveside service for family and friends will be held at the Etna Cemetery. All family and friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life at the City of Etna Park on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 3:00 PM. In honor of Lori’s colorful nature and sense of community, a colorful wardrobe and shared dessert is welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of her biggest passions, Friends of the Scott Valley Pool, PO Box 501, Etna, CA, 96027.  Lori worked tirelessly to ensure the Dotty Olson Community Pool was always free to any child that wanted to swim.
