Born May 20th, 1955, Howard Leroy Wynant was a man to be remembered. A living legend, he was a person that no one messed with without repercussions. In the afternoon of January 30th, 2023, Howard declared his fierce independence one last time by leaving this plane of existence.

He spent nearly 30 years as a dedicated and acknowledged timber faller and was a self proclaimed wood hog. Howard even kept his home as warm as his heart (and temper if you deserved it.) Howard was always wise, with a never failing sense of humor, and loved his family and friends deeply. Howard spent much of his life serving his tribe; He was identified as the chairman of the Butte Valley Indian Council from 1997 through 1999 in correspondence with the Klamath National Forest and City of Dorris. In 1999, he was elected chairman of the Shasta Tribe and remained so until approximately 2002.

Those who knew him will know he was welcomed into heaven with open arms by his mother, Donnabelle Boomgarden, his daughter, Sierra Diane Wynant, and father, William Howard Wynant. He will be missed dearly by all of his surviving family: his son Matthew Wynant, daughter in law Joanna Wynant, grandsons Chace Wynant, Sade Wynant, granddaughter McKenzie Crawford, his brothers sisters, various cousins, aunts and uncles.

On February 18, there will be a graveside service for Howard, followed by a potluck at 3:00pm at the Dorris Community Center.
