William “Bill” Alexander Cameron of Yreka passed away at home following a short illness on December 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife and family at his side.

Bill was born on June 3, 1936 to Alexander Francis and Elsie Fae Cameron. Bill was born at Happy Hollow Dairy, owned by his grandparents, on the Yreka-Montague Road. Bill was a lifelong resident of Yreka

During his school years, he played football, was known to be a prankster and enjoyed many shenanigans, by the stories told by him and others.

In July, 1954, a month after graduating from Yreka High School, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corps for three years during the Korean War. His service would be something he would always be extremely proud of.

Through the years, Bill would work hauling hay, and at various grocery stores and lumber mills. While working for Windsor Wood Products, the current site of Meek’s Lumber, he met and fell in love with Ann Lewis. They were married on December 5, 1970, in his parent’s home on Lane Street in Yreka.

Bill would go on to sell Farm Bureau Insurance for 26 years until his retirement in 1999. Upon retirement, he enjoyed his grandchildren, going on many school field trips with them. He was extremely proud of his family and delighted in being around them. He was an avid reader, loved watching football and enjoyed trips to the Oregon coast.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alexander and Elsie Cameron and his brother Howard Cameron. Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann; daughters Robin Ratty (Mike) of Medford, Oregon and Wendy Wallace of Montague; grandchildren Jonathan T. Gyorfi, Jennifer L. “Daisy” Gyorfi and Scott M. Wallace (Cassie); brothers Steven Cameron (Sherry) of Medford and Jeff Cameron (Nicki) of Montrose, Colorado. He also leaves behind many nieces, cousins and countless friends.
