North State Giving Tuesday is Supporting Students

Weed / COS โ€“In January 2016, the COS Foundation along with the College of the Siskiyous developed a new program called the โ€œSiskiyou Promiseโ€ for graduates of Siskiyou and Modoc County high schools. The Siskiyou Promise grant is offered to every Siskiyou County and Modoc County high school graduate who enrolls at COS the fall semester immediately following their high school graduation (first eligible to apply for the Siskiyou Promise was Class of 2016). This fall, approximately 74 Siskiyou and Modoc County high school graduates are currently attending College of the Siskiyous as a first year Siskiyou Promise grant recipient and 54, second year students are receiving a continuation award.

The Siskiyou Promise grant is a โ€œlast dollarโ€ grant currently used to cover tuition and other mandatory fees not covered by federal or state grant sources.  The Siskiyou Promise grant helps address these issues by offering financial support so students can focus on their education โ€“ rather than their finances!

On November 28, our community will come together for North State Giving Tuesday, an online event where you can donate to the COS Foundation and our Siskiyou Promise program to support students attending College of the Siskiyous.  For 14 hours, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., you can โ€œgive where you liveโ€ online at www.northstategives.org.

The Community Foundation of the North State is leading North State Giving Tuesday, an online event at www.northstategives.org and is generously supported by the Redding Bank of Commerce and United Way of Northern California.  All you need is your credit card number and access to a web browser.  Visit the website at www.northstategives.org  in advance to orient yourself for the one-day only ONLINE event where you will find a video explaining the event.

โ€œItโ€™s a secure online giving opportunity where a donation of $10 or more to the COS Foundation will help us raise funds to support the Siskiyou Promise program,โ€

says Dawnie Slabaugh, Director of Public Relations and College Foundation.ย

โ€œThis online event is very important to our Siskiyou Promise Program and our students,โ€ she continued.ย

โ€œTo put it into perspectiveโ€ฆ if eleven people were to donate $100 each on Giving Tuesday, one studentโ€™s tuition for one year or two semesters would be paid for.ย  We need every donation we can get to help support this program.โ€

All gifts are 100% tax deductible, as allowed by law and will be receipted for tax purposes by the Community Foundation of the North State.
