“Here we go round the Maypole high, the Maypole high, the Maypole high… here
we go round the Maypole high, let colored ribbons fly… let colored ribbons fly.”
Under blue skies, students from Pasture Raised Kids – Farm School skipped around the
MayPole on Tuesday, May 9, while local musicians Pat and Lisa Campbell sang and
played the traditional Maypole songs.
“We love having our talented community join us for these special seasonal celebrations.
Spring is such a fun time at Farm School and we are so lucky to have such amazing
musicians join us,” said Niki Harris, executive director at Pasture Raised Kids.
Maypole dancing is believed to have started around 2,000 years ago when people
celebrated the arrival of spring by dancing around decorated trees.
Farm School is a program of Pasture Raised Kids, a 501c3 non-profit learning center
that is situated on a working farm. At Farm School, children spend the majority of their
time outdoors. Students are immersed in hands-on learning inspired by the natural
world and are guided by teachers to ignite students’ curiosities and excitement about
learning.
