At approximately 1 P.M. on March 23rd, 2023,
Yreka City Fire Department, Yreka Police Department and CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers responded to a report of a debris fire near the Yreka Community Center. A witness told fire personnel of a suspicious individual that was in the area where the fire started. The fire was quickly extinguished by fire personnel. CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers in conjunction with Yreka Police Department located and subsequently arrested Daniel Stephen Whalen, age 67 for causing the fire. Whalen was transported to Siskiyou County Jail where he was booked on the following charges:

CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers work diligently to investigate all fires and apprehend those suspected of starting fires.
