History came alive last month as the Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum celebrated the opening of its new exhibition, Mount Shasta Stories.
The opening ceremony, which was attended by City staff, museum volunteers, and others, included an appearance from historical interpreters in pioneer-era garb, as well as remarks from the exhibition’s organizers and the Mayor. Attendees explored the new exhibition, learned about upcoming museum programming, and enjoyed refreshments donated courtesy of local businesses.
Mount Shasta Stories honors the region’s longtime residents by compiling local tales from indigenous people as well as early settlers. The tales draw attention to Mount Shasta’s history of agriculture and logging, and pay homage to the railroad that played such a pivotal role in shaping the City’s founding. In addition, the exhibition spotlights Mount Shasta’s current residents by featuring a short documentary film by filmmaker Autie Carlisle, known for her northern California documentary series, Shasta Stories.
