SISKIYOU COUNTY JAIL BOOKINGS April 20–27, 2026
The Siskiyou News reminds readers that all arrests are allegations and that the court system exists precisely to sort these things out. We also remind readers that court dates are, in fact, mandatory.
Spring has arrived in Siskiyou County, bringing with it the familiar rituals of the season: wildflowers blooming along the Scott River, snow retreating from the higher elevations, and a remarkable number of residents rediscovering their passion for driving on the interstate after dark.
This week’s report, spanning April 20–27, reads less like a law enforcement document and more like a travel itinerary for people who really should have stayed home.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
CHP officers from both the Mount Shasta and Yreka offices enjoyed a particularly productive week, collecting DUI arrests the way some people collect refrigerator magnets — one from nearly every stop. Northbound I-5, southbound I-5, Highway 89, West Old Stage Road, and 25 N. Weed Blvd. all contributed to the season’s haul. One motorist was considerate enough to be stopped at 4:20 a.m. The report does not elaborate on the poetry of this timing.
For the statistically minded: at least eight DUI-related bookings in seven days across a county of roughly 44,000 people suggests that either the county has a transportation problem, a decision-making problem, or both. Possibly both.
FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM
Kimberly R. Hogan, 49, of Yreka appears to have developed a deep and abiding affection for Weed’s railroad infrastructure — so much so that she visited it twice in three days. Her first visit, to an undisclosed location in Weed on the evening of April 21, resulted in a misdemeanor trespass charge and an overnight stay at the county jail. Undeterred, she returned to the rails on Spring Lane just 48 hours later, this time adding a felony petty theft charge with two or more priors to her itinerary. Weed Police, to their credit, recognized a returning customer.
Andrew D. Russell, 41, of Dunsmuir achieved a different kind of distinction, managing to be arrested, released, and arrested again within approximately 43 hours — with the second visit carrying a $100,000 bail and a Ramey warrant. It is unclear what Russell did with his brief window of freedom, but the Sheriff’s Office apparently had thoughts about it.
FAILURE TO APPEAR: A GROWTH INDUSTRY
A remarkable number of this week’s bookings involved people who had previously promised, in writing, to appear in court, and then did not. This included at least a dozen separate failure-to-appear charges across multiple defendants. One individual managed to accumulate four separate warrant-related charges before being collected by the District Attorney’s office in Yreka on a Monday morning, suggesting that avoiding court is a full-time occupation that, like most full-time occupations, eventually catches up with you.
The warrants ranged in age and origin, with some dating back to 2022. Siskiyou County’s court system, it turns out, has a long memory and apparently a lot of patience.
THE RAILROAD LOBBY
Three separate individuals were charged this week with trespassing on railroad property in Weed, all arrested within roughly 24 hours of each other at or near Spring Lane. Whether this represents a coordinated effort, a coincidence, or simply the magnetic appeal of Weed’s rail corridor to the philosophically unmoored is a question the report declines to answer.
COMING AND GOING
The week’s bookings drew visitors from as far afield as Phoenix, Ariz., Maple Valley, Wash., Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Modesto, and — most exotically — Bratislava, Slovakia, suggesting that Siskiyou County’s reputation extends well beyond its borders. The I-5 corridor, as always, served as the county’s unofficial welcome mat.
Forty bookings in seven days. Eight DUI arrests. Multiple failure-to-appear warrants stretching back years. Two men arrested twice in the same week. One woman who apparently regards railroad trespassing as a hobby.
Spring in Siskiyou County. It’s something.
