The Blue Star Memorial, “in tribute to the armed forces that have defended the United States of America,” stands at the main entrance of McCloud on highway 89.

Each year, McCloud residents, Dave and Suzanne Abbott, has replaced the 12 by 18 foot flag that gets torn by the weather.

The Abbotts added the flag pole to the Blue Star Memorial in 2002 with a plaque dedicated to Suzanne’s parents, Irvin and Phyllis Hartley.

Joye Buys, one of the dozen community members that came to help, says “We are doing what we do best and supporting our troops in our community.”

Jimmy Franklin adds, “I am thankful that we all can come and help our community of McCloud and be thankful for those that served our country.”

The McCloud Garden Club plants flowers and maintains the Blue Star Memorial year round.
