SCSO PRESS RELEASE
On February 24, 2025 at approximately 10:19 a.m., firefighters responded to a a reported structure fire near Rose Avenue in the City of Dunsmuir. Siskiyou County Sheriffโs Office (SCSO) also responded to the scene.
One person was located deceased inside the structure by SCSO Deputies, along with a deceased dog. In order to determined what caused this tragic incident, multiple investigations will be ongoing. A comprehensive investigation into the cause and origin of the fire will be conducted along with an investigation to determine the cause and manner of death of the individual.
At this time, we are unable to provide the name of the individual who died in the fire until we can positively identify the person and make an official notification to the family.
We want to thank the many first responders from Dunsmuir Fire Department, Castella Fire Protection District, CAL FIRE, California Highway Patrol, Mount Shasta Police Department, Mount Shasta Ambulance, and the Mount Shasta Fire Department for their response to this incident and for their continued dedication to protecting life and property in our communities.
