Prineville man arrested for DUI After Riding a Bear on hwy 26 near Mitchell, OR. – A man from rural Crook County was arrested late Saturday after being caught on police body cam riding a full-grown grizzly bear while drinking from a bottle of vodka.

According to the Crook County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the incident occurred on Highway 26 just outside the Crook County boundary. The man, identified as 38-year-old local โ€œoutdoors enthusiastโ€ Lars McCready, was reportedly โ€œtraveling eastbound on a bear at approximately 7 miles per hour with a visible open container.โ€

Body cam footage shows McCready wearing a fur hat and striped shirt, appearing unconcerned as an officer approached. โ€œI told him to dismount the animal,โ€ the deputyโ€™s report reads, โ€œbut he said, quote, โ€˜Itโ€™s fine, heโ€™s the designated walker.โ€™โ€

The bear, described as โ€œsurprisingly cooperative but unimpressed,โ€ was released back into the wild after the encounter. McCready, however, faces multiple charges including DUI, wildlife endangerment, and โ€œoperating an unlicensed mode of transportation.โ€

When asked for comment, a Oregon Department off Fish & Game spokesperson simply sighed and said, โ€œWeโ€™ve seen a lot, but this is new.โ€

Footage was obtained from OSP under the stateโ€™s public record law and can confirm that while the bear didnโ€™t say anything, it definitely looked disappointed.
