McCloud’s Easter Egg Hunt Where Every Child Left a Winner

The McCloud Easter Egg Hunt was hugely successful this last Saturday, drawing over 100 children and their families from all around Siskiyou County. Under sunny skies, but not too warm, it was a perfect day for a family event where every child walks away a winner. Lots of pictures were taken with children posing next to the Easter Bunny. The Hunt began promptly at noon following the countdown with kids running off in different directions in search of as many eggs they could find. After all the eggs were found, everyone gathered in the Scout Hall to collect their prizes.

The children were divided up into three age groups: walking to 4, 5 to 7, and 8 to 10 years old. McCloud’s Hoo Hoo Park was divided up into three sections for each age group to hunt for the plastic eggs filled with candy. The prizes the children would get at the end included 34 bucket/baskets filled with toys, games and candy, and 3 bikes for each age group, plus a table of fun kid stuff for extra prizes for children to pick get if they did not get a winning ticket because “no child will leave without a prize,” according to, the McCloud Community Recreation Council President, Patty Ballard-Faulkner.

The other 13 volunteers who helped put on this event included Tristan and Stephanie Burris, Sheri Burris as the Easter Bunny (who got her tailed pulled throughout the event), Kayden Burris, Kayla Burris, Kayrisa Burris, LeRoy, Joyce, Malaki, and Makayla Scarbrough, John Friday, Beth Wood, and Mary Worley.

Patty Ballard-Falkner (to the left of the Easter Bunny) and her family, from left to right: Kevin, Kaylee holding Tinnsley, Sandra Ballard, Patty, Sheri Burris as the Easter Bunny, and their mother Mary Worley, all helped and participated in the very successful and organized Easter event.

Patty Ballard-Faulkner has been working this event for the past twenty plus years, and she has been organizing it over the last 15 years along with most of the same volunteers. This event was started by McCloud Alumni Jean Morzenti 75 years ago in 1950.

The event itself doesn’t last long. And afterwards, there are many happy faces to start the spring season.

The Easter Bunny stands by to congratulate Charlie Adkins (red dress) who won one of the bicycles at the McCloud Easter Egg Hunt but Chaz Narajo and her brother Elijah sit on the bike to try it out as her mother, Mandy, congratulates her also on her big win.

Next Sunday, there will be another Easter Egg hunt in Dunsmuir.
