Sari Sommarstrom has her Ph.D. in Resource Planning Conservation and is a retired watershed consultant. She has been working on conservation issues in Scott Valley for decades, and has reams of data and studies to back her up. Sheโ€™s always been an avid fish advocate, but sheโ€™s equally passionate about saving agriculture in Scott Valley.

Sari recently shared her expertise on the Bill Meyer show, discussing current water quality and environmental issues. She provided insights on the “celebrated” dam removal project and the latest salmon return numbers, emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach to conservation.

โ€œThe only things I can see replacing agriculture here would be subdivisions, invasive weeds, orโ€”worst of all but highly possibleโ€”a Dust Bowl,โ€ she says. โ€œNone of these are good for farming or fish. AgWAโ€™s mission is to get that reality out to the public and our policy makers.โ€

Thank you Sari Somarrstrom for all that you do…

Here in Placer County the Placer County Water Water Agency continues to kill thousands of salmon and endangered steelhead trout annually on the Auburn Ravine at seven dam diversion sites. Although the water agency is aware of this issue, the loss continues to this day. Fish screens would solve this problem but the agency continues to ignore the public’s demand…
