Forest Service News Release
Yreka, Calif., March 30, 2023—The Klamath National Forest is seeking members to serve on the Siskiyou County Resource Advisory Committee (RAC). The RAC is a local advisory committee that recommends projects for funding to federal land managers, which will benefit resources on public lands. The 15-member committee represents a cross section of county communities, industries, schools, environmentalists, and local government. RAC members solicit, review, and recommend projects that meet the following objectives:
- Improve maintenance of existing infrastructure,
- Implement stewardship objectives that enhance forest ecosystems,
- Restore and improve land health and water quality, and
- Create additional employment opportunities.
Since its creation, the RAC has helped fund numerous projects in Siskiyou County. Projects recommended by the RAC include trails reconstruction and maintenance projects, fish passage and waterway restorations, community wildfire fuels reduction efforts, conservation education programs, and noxious weed reduction efforts. All RAC projects must show a clear benefit to public lands. Many of the projects are located on National Forest lands in Siskiyou County, but a majority occurs on private lands. These projects are funded under the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000, reauthorized by Congress I the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2018 (PL 115-141).
Prospective Siskiyou County RAC committee members must reside in California, and to the extent practicable, provide local representation. The committee consists of 15 members with a wide range of interests. Three additional members are appointed as replacements should a committee member leave for any reason. Each member is assigned to one of the following three categories.
Committee members serve a four-year term and are eligible for reappointment for an additional four-year term upon the Secretary of Agriculture’s approval. Membership on a RAC is limited to two four-year terms. Current and past members must reapply to the RAC to be considered for reappointment.
Interested applicants must submit a cover letter and download and complete the Member Interest Form and the Advisory Committee or Research and Promotion Background Information Form (AD-755). Completed packages can be mailed to or dropped off at Klamath National Forest, Attn: Siskiyou County RAC, 1711 S. Main St., Yreka, CA 96097.
