College of the Siskiyous Announces the Final Candidates for Vice President of Academic Affairs

Weed / COS – The community is invited to attend the public forums and meet the final candidates for the position of Vice President of Academic Affairs at College of the Siskiyous. The public forums are one of the final steps in a lengthy selection process, and are open to students, faculty, staff and community members. The public forums will take place Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. During the public forums, candidates will have the opportunity to share their experience and answer questions from audience members. The public forums will take place at the Weed Campus in the Kenneth W. Ford Theater, and will be live-streamed via the college’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/CollegeoftheSiskiyous/).   • 9:00am to 10:00am: Mark Klever – Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs – College of the Siskiyous

  • 10:15am to 11:15am: Mark C. Fields, Ed.D. – Acting Vice President of Instruction – Laney College

About the Finalists:

Mark Klever is currently serving as the Interim Vice President, Academic Affairs at College of the Siskiyous. Mr. Klever earned his bachelor's degree in Agri-Business Management from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) and a Master’s of Science in Agriculture from California Polytechnic State University. Mr. Klever spent 20 years employed at Cal Poly College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences Department. In 2011 Mr. Klever became President / General Manager of a multimillion-dollar organic farming and ranching operation in Siskiyou County. Prior to him obtaining his current position, he began his employment as an adjunct instructor in 2017 for College of the Siskiyous. Then Mr. Klever served as Dean of Career and Technical Education and the Yreka Campus. Today, while holding the position of Interim Vice President, Academic Affairs, Mr. Klever is chair of Instruction Council; tri-chair of Enrollment Management; co-chair of the Faculty Prioritization Task Force and has worked tirelessly helping grow our full-time faculty, which in turn helps increase enrollment. Mr. Klever supervises the Dean of Liberal Arts, Dean of Career and Technical Education, Dean of Kinesiology, Physical Education and Director of Athletics and Dean of Yreka Campus and Director of the Nursing Department. As a leader on campus and in the community, he has a strong desire to use his education, experience, abilities, and strong community relationships to serve as the next Vice President of Academic Affairs.



Dr. Mark Fields is currently serving as the Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs at Laney College in Oakland. Prior to obtaining his current position, Dr. Fields was the Dean of Academic Affairs: Social Sciences, Humanities, & Applied Technology. He holds an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from California State University, Long Beach, CA; and MPA Public Administration from California State University, Northridge, CA; a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from Woodbury University, in Burbank, CA; and an Associate of Arts degree in Business Management from College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, CA. While serving in his current position as Acting Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Fields has led the revision of the Enrollment Management Plan as co-chair of the Enrollment Management Committee; led the realignment of instructional divisions with the Guided Pathways to develop a multi-lingual marketing plan to recruit students from the local multicultural community; and more. Earlier in his career, he served as tenured faculty at El Camino College teaching Administration of Justice courses.
