September 17, 1950 – July 13, 2022


Donald Fredrick “Fritz” Eller passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, from complications due to dementia. He was 71 years old. Born to parents Joe and Donna in 1950, Fritz grew up in Scott Valley and Grenada, graduating from Yreka High School in 1968. While in high school, he met Janet Friedman, whom he married in 1970. They had two children, Don and Dale. Fritz had a 33-year career as a Senior Livestock Inspector II for the California Department of Agriculture where he distinguished himself with many accredited disease studies, built many professional relationships with local ranchers, and trained himself up to be one of the finest necropsy technicians in California. Fritz had many passions outside of work: hunting, fly fishing, camping in the Marble Mountains, western leatherwork, and rifle marksmanship, eventually achieving the rank of High Master. He was also a gifted sports official, gaining playoff status in football and basketball. He also coached women’s basketball at the Jr. High and High School level. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Dale. He is survived by his wife Janet, his son Don (Jamie; grandchildren, Micah and Trevor), his sister Ronda (Jim), and his brothers Robby (Darlene), Neal (Karen), and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held July 21, 2022 at 11:00am at the Etna Cemetery. There will be a reception afterwards at the Ft. Jones Community Hall.
