Obituary: Adrian Russel DeRose

Adrian Russel DeRose
May 18, 1938 – May 29, 2026

Adrian Russel DeRose, age 88, of Yreka, passed away at Fairchild Medical Center on Friday, May 29, after a serious fall. Born to Manuel Frank and Gladys Lillian (Jensen) DeRose on May 18, 1938 in Yreka, he attended local schools and married the love of his life, Lani Knox at the age of 20. They shared 68 years together on Greenhorn Road, just down the road from his childhood home. They raised their four children and many beloved animals there.

Adrian was a devoted husband and father. He instilled the love of nature and the values of honesty, integrity and hard work into his children. He worked in construction and as a foreman, helped to build many bridges, commercial buildings and homes in northern California. Between Laniโ€™s vision and his skills, he completed many homes and remodels in the Siskiyou County area after earning his contractorโ€™s license in the 1970s.

When he retired, he and Lani enjoyed many years traveling the United States seeking out new places to explore. He was an avid camper, hiker, fisherman, gardener and musician in partnership with Lani. His guitar and deep baritone voice were often accompanied by those of his family and friends. He and Lani joined several local folk groups jamming whenever and wherever they could. His wicked sense of humor was legendary among his family and friends as he was always ready to tell a โ€œnot-so-trueโ€ story for a good laugh.

He was a strong, working man with a generous heart. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and especially family.

Adrian was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Gerald (Donna), Brice (Barbara), Gordon (Janet); granddaughter Rachel DeRose-Olvera; and nephews Mike and Steven DeRose.

He is survived by his wife Lani; son James B. DeRose, Twila A. Rasul (Kit), Carla G. DeRose-Olvera (Edward), and Julie D. Steiger (Dennis); 14 grandchildren,12 great grandchildren; brother Errol (Mary), and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Adrianโ€™s request, there will be no public services.
