Obituary For Charles Jerome Goehring

Chuck passed away on March 1, 2026 at his daughterโ€™s home in Chico, California. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. He was 88 years old.

Chuck was born on September 10, 1937, in Long Lake, South Dakota to Jacob and Louise Goehring. He had four older sisters, Irene, Lorene, Delores, and LaRue. His family relocated to Lodi, California when he was five years old. After his mother, Louise, passed away when he was 8 years old, Chuck went to live with his older sisters.

Chuck met and fell in love with his beautiful neighbor, Betty Lou Williams, while she was babysitting his niece. Chuck and Betty were married on October 1, 1955, and were married for 66 years.

In 1955, Chuck joined the Air Force and was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California. He and Betty welcomed their first daughter, Pammela, in 1956 and their second daughter, Tami, in 1958. After Chuckโ€™s service with the Air Force, the family moved to the Bay Area. While living in the Bay Area the family enjoyed traveling to Northern California and camping at Castle Crags State Park.

Chuck and Betty moved their family to Mount Shasta in 1963 when Chuck transferred with Safeway as a butcher. They wanted to raise their children in the area they fell in love with while camping at Castle Crags. In 1964, they bought a house and moved to Dunsmuir. In 1965, they welcomed their son, Von.

Most summers were spent at Lake Shasta with family and friends. Camping at the Siskiyou Inboard/Outboard Club in Lakehead was a family favorite. They enjoyed boating, waterskiing, fishing, and visiting with many others from the Dunsmuir area.

Chuck enjoyed snowmobiling and was an avid skier. He was on the Mt. Shasta Ski Patrol at the Mt. Shasta Ski Bowl for several years.

In the late 1960s, Chuck met Red Adams, a real estate broker, who got him interested in real estate. In the 1970s, Chuck became a broker and opened Century 21 Shasta Cascade Realty in both Dunsmuir and Mt. Shasta.

In 1982, Chuck and Betty bought the Oak Lo Motel, which was later known as the House of Glass. The House of Glass was a motel, restaurant, bar, and bowling alley which was located in Dunsmuir.

Chuck was a pilot and enjoyed flying into Mott Airport. He started flying a Cessna airplane, and later enjoyed flying clients, family, and friends around in his Mooney airplane. He often flew to Montana to go hunting.

In 1991, Chuck and Bettyโ€™s son, Von, passed away at the age of 26. The family was heartbroken.

After selling the House of Glass in 1993, Chuck and Betty built their retirement home in Lake Shastina in 1996. There were lots of family get-togethers at Chuck and Bettyโ€™s beautiful Lake Shastina home, where many memories were made with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

When they werenโ€™t spending time at their Lake Shastina home, Chuck and Betty enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to Lake Havasu, Arizona and Winchester Bay, Oregon. They became snowbirds and traveled during the winter months with the Roving Rods.

Chuck worked for many years at Raleyโ€™s as a butcher in both Yreka and Redding.

Chuck became Bettyโ€™s fulltime caregiver when she became wheelchair bound, keeping her at the home they loved so much until she passed away in 2022.

Chuck was predeceased by his wife, Betty Lou Goehring, and son, Von Charles Goehring, as well his mother and father, Louise and Jacob Goehring, his mother-in-law, Minnie Williams, his sisters, Irene Hughes (Vic), Lorene Von Rotz (Dave), Delores Bright (Jack), LaRue Shapland (Bob), and his beloved chocolate labs, Chelsea and Jenny.

Chuck is survived by his daughters, Pammela Thompson and Tami Barlow (Steve), his grandchildren, Chris Barlow, Renae Hanson (Chris), Melissa Dilbeck (Chris), and Bart Thompson (Megan), as well as his great-grandchildren, Caleb Hanson, Morgan Barlow, Trenton Hanson, Hailey Dilbeck, Henry Thompson, Lillian Barlow, and James Thompson. Shortly before Chuckโ€™s passing, he was excited to find out that he would be blessed with another great-granddaughter later this year. Chuck is also survived by many nieces and nephews which he adored and loved spending time with.

Chuck has left us with many years of joy, laughs, jokes, and storytelling. We love him dearly and will always have special memories of Chuck and Betty.

Chuck will be interred at the Mt. Shasta Memorial Cemetery, and laid to rest next to the love of his life, Betty.

There will be no services, however, a celebration of life will be held later this summer. Details on the celebration of life will follow.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or Saint Jude Childrenโ€™s Research Hospital.
