Does anybody really care?
The cities of Dunsmuir and Mount Shasta have a hard time keeping their clocks showing the correct time. Why is this?
Perhaps it’s because almost everybody carries a cell phone in their pocket these days, and so by default they’re also carrying a clock that updates and corrects itself for accuracy. Or maybe most people still wear a wrist watch, so who needs a bell tower?
Big Ben, the largest bell in the bell tower at Parliament in London has a very impressive ring to it; but who needs it?

The Sather Tower Carillon on the University of California, Berkeley campus rings out a nice tune at midday, letting everyone know what time it is, in a soft, gentle, melodic way. By comparison, Dunsmuir has a midday horn that will make you need to change your underpants if you’re anywhere near it when it blasts.
Maybe it’s because today’s world is a world of separated individuals, a world of every man for himself. Why keep a clock in the central plaza so that everybody can check, and synchronize their wrist watches, or pocket watches to, with everyone marching to the same beat, at the same time?
Does anybody really need a central clock, keeping the correct time anymore? Does anybody really care?
