On the evening of June 12 around 7:00 pm, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received an alert about a potential drowning at Lake Siskiyou according to SCSO press release. Deputies quickly responded to the North Shore boat launch where the incident was reported. An SCSO Sergeant prepared a rescue boat to search the waters.
Witnesses revealed that a man in his thirties had been swimming around a boat with a friend, when the boat drifted away from them. The man then struggled to stay afloat and disappeared from view before aid could be rendered.
The SCSO Dive team was dispatched to search the area with support from the Siskiyou County Search and Rescue K9 and Drone units. During the continued search, Shasta County Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist. After a joint effort that lasted until approximately 2:54 pm the following afternoon, the man’s body was located and recovered from an underwater depth of 49 feet.
Identification is pending notification of next of kin as the investigation into this tragic incident remains active. The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to Shasta County for generously providing their highly skilled personnel and equipment, as well as to the dedicated volunteers of the Siskiyou County Search and Rescue Team.
