At approximately 6 A.M. on May 31, 2024, the Weed City Police Department requested assistance from CAL FIRE Law Enforcement for a fire investigation. A CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officer responded and conducted an origin and cause investigation. After numerous witness interviews, the officer confirmed the fire was an act of arson.
Victor Blanchard, a 39-year-old resident of Weed, was arrested for starting the fire. Blanchard was transported to the Siskiyou County Jail and booked on the following charges:
CALIFORNIA PENAL CODE: 451(c) – Felony
CALIFORNIA PENAL CODE: 451(d) – Felony
CALIFORNIA PENAL CODE: 451.1(a) – Felony Enhancement
CALIFORNIA PENAL CODE: 148(a)(1) – Misdemeanor
