About This Event
Free Group hike to Castle Crags, California!
The 55 hike Challenge: What does a group hike look like? Meet at a trailhead and hike! Your speed! Your level!
Trailhead - the one at the top that goes to the Crags. (View point parking lot).
Some of us can go to the top if desired, or just to the Springs for less miles and less elevation. Please research this ahead of time so you know the challenge levels.
We’ll be heading out to one of Northern California’s most iconic hiking spots—Castle Crags State Park. Expect towering granite spires, beautiful forest trails, and unreal mountain views the whole way. This is going to be an unforgettable day hike with an amazing crew.
Levels:
Challenging - to the Crags Dome. 6miles, 2000 feet elevation.
Moderate - trail towards the dome, but turn off and go to the springs. 5 miles and 1000ft elevation gain.
I’ll be bringing a packed lunch and eating at the springs - it’s a shaded oasis of water coming out of the rocks! Then I’ll be heading to the dome, at this point we can divide the group. Some can go back and be done or hike on to the dome.
Getting to the dome is an additional mile with 1000 ft of elevation gain - the trail is doable, but it is some great elevation gain!
If you’ve been wanting to explore California hiking trails and meet new hiking friends, this is your sign to come with us!
There is an entrance fee to the park and the top parking lot fills up. It would be great if we could carpool. Maybe we could meet in Ashland if we’re coming from Southern Oregon? Northern California folks can just connect at the top parking lot by 9am or sooner!
