Yreka Library to Screen PBS Documentary ‘The Librarians’ on April 24

The Yreka Library will host a free public screening of The Librarians, a PBS documentary examining the growing national debate over book restrictions in public and school libraries, on Friday, April 24, at 2:00 p.m.

The film, part of the PBS Indie Lens Pop-Up series, follows librarians across the United States as they navigate legislative pressure — including efforts by Texas lawmakers to review library collections — and pushback against collection standards that touch on race-related and LGBTQIA+ content.

Drawing on historical context, The Librarians frames the controversy not merely as a dispute over individual titles, but as a broader conflict over the role of public institutions in education and community life. The documentary’s tagline puts it plainly: “America’s war on books is more than a war on words.”
