The film, part of the PBS Indie Lens Pop-Up series, follows librarians across the United States as they navigate legislative pressure — including efforts by Texas lawmakers to review library collections — and pushback against collection standards that touch on race-related and LGBTQIA+ content.
Drawing on historical context, The Librarians frames the controversy not merely as a dispute over individual titles, but as a broader conflict over the role of public institutions in education and community life.
