OPENING RECEPTION: Not Everything is Black or White… Nor Shape or Color Quite Alike
Join Liberty Arts to celebrate two Siskiyou County artists, Marlis Jermutus and Samuel Whitman for their exciting exhibition. In Marlis Jermutus’ abstract works using black and white paint, whenever black touches white there will always be some shades of gray. Samuel Whitman interprets truths into encoded shapes to be corroborated…only by another set of eyes.
Marlis states, “There are always shades of gray…shades in which one can often find connections we usually ignore- connections that can bridge the black and the white.” In the upcoming exhibition the metaphor of “shades of gray“ can be imagined; our own ‘gray-matter’ providing the interpretation.
“Humans are such a visual species. And any mark we make to help enhance the shape others see about our inner selves is going to mean something different in each moment. I hope that’s why my art might be interesting to people, that it describes a sort of moment that has a vibrancy … that suggests truth or life itself.” –Samuel
