Something is Always Going On in McCloud, CA

For a very small community, McCloud really has a lot to offer. Many of the people that live in the unincorporated town of McCloud are involved in the community one way or another.

The summer season of retreats has already begun. The Dance Hall, RV Park, the Mercantile, and the hotels and B & Bs in town have already been busy with bookings. But it is not just preparing for the busy tourist season, McCloud is just an active town.

A weekend in McCloud, here are some things happening:

The McCloud Volunteer Fire Department often offers classes for firefighters. This weekend in May, the department held a COS course called Driver Operator 1A. It brought firefighters from as far as Eldorado Hills as well as around the county.

The Valero gas station that was known as Reginato’s for generations is now officially called Upper Falls Deli & Mini Mart. Jagmohan Rana and his partners Hardeep and Harkamal Singh, from Modesto, California, found this opportunity to live in a “beautiful, quant town” and just got their new name up on the building on the corner of Broadway Ave, and highway 89.

Every year, just ahead of Memorial Day, the McCloud Garden Club holds their annual Cemetery Cleanup.  Annually, a Memorial Day service is held at the cemetery with the support of many local agencies including the Sheriff’s office, Girl Scouts, American Legion Post 92, and others. Don Reszalo, a 21 year resident of McCloud visited the cemetery to enjoy the peacefulness and all the work that was done to make the cemetery look park-like again.
The Heritage Junction Museum has had a rejuvenation and the finishing touches to ready the museum for the season are being finished up this weekend.   Under the presidency of Lindy Fay (middle), Director Dan Fay, and past president Sherri Burris (right) they had many volunteers reorganize and update the museum. Steve Richardson painted a mural across the south interior wall of Mt. Shasta and surrounding forest. They are holding their docent orientation so they will be up and ready to open for the season next weekend.
The fountain on Main Street in front of the Chamber office in McCloud has been getting a facelift and will once again be working in time for the Annual Mushroom Festival next weekend. Fish and Wildlife used to put young trout in the fountain to grow over the summer. But the fountain has not been running for quite a few years.

The Squaw Valley Riding Club at the East end of McCloud is a private club. But they do rent out  the large open clubhouse for events. Over the weekend, it was a gathering of many locals in and around the area to celebrate the life of Jesse McFadden.

The American Legion Post 92 Auxiliary hosted their quarterly District 2 meeting in McCloud over the weekend. District 2 consists of 5 different Auxiliary Posts in Shasta, Siskiyou and Trinity Counties. This is a forum to exchange ideas, report in and conduct business such as the election of officers.

    Hello,
There should be a snippet that people should that the reporters and behind the scenes people are not being paid , so any gratuity would be appreciated especially with gas prices, etc.
Just a thought. Thank you for bringing Siskiyou County news back….

    FYI
Update about the McCloud Fountain in front of the chamber. Dan Simons with his son Trent put lotta time in restoring the fountain for the town. Ann Simons did all the landscaping.

Well Done to you all. McCloud wouldn’t be a big little town if it wasn’t for your dedication. I greatly appreciate all that you do!
