Empowering Mothers & Families: Family Tree of Change, It Takes a Village

YREKA, CA – On Saturday, May 18th, the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Siskiyou County, in partnership with Siskiyou Community Resource, the County of Siskiyou, and First 5 Siskiyou, hosted a successful community event at the Yreka Community Resource Center. The event aimed to raise awareness about postpartum depression and child safety, providing valuable resources and support for families in the region.

The day featured informative presentations on postpartum depression by Carolin James and Melissa Duke, shedding light on the challenges faced by new mothers and offering strategies for coping and seeking help. Dr. David Marriott, a pediatric physician at Fairchild Medical Center, led engaging safety workshops, equipping parents and caregivers with essential knowledge to protect their children from harm.

Don’t be ashamed to ask for help,
do not feel something is wrong because you need HELP.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious brunch and participated in games, raffles, and other activities, fostering a sense of community and connection. The event provided a safe space for families to come together, learn, and access resources, ultimately strengthening the support network for parents and children in Siskiyou County.

The collaboration between these organizations demonstrates a strong commitment to the well-being of families and children in the area. By addressing critical issues like postpartum depression and child safety, the event empowers parents and caregivers to create nurturing and secure environments for their children to thrive.

“We are thrilled with the turnout and positive feedback from the community,” said Jean Trevisan, a representative from Yreka Community Resource Collaborative. “Our goal is to continue providing resources and support to ensure that all families in Siskiyou County have the tools they need to raise healthy and happy children, we are so grateful for First 5 Siskiyous support & resources.”
