A Rainbow of Fun and Fitness for Siskiyou County Students

The Siskiyou County Office of Education’s Expanded Learning program, in partnership with Siskiyou Works, Friday Night Live, and a host of community organizations, recently hosted a successful color run, promoting health and wellness among local students.

The event, which included 5k and 1k options, drew an impressive turnout of 90 students from across the county, including Yreka, Montague, and even Mount Shasta to Somes Bar. The vibrant course wound through the Yreka High School track and around Yreka, with enthusiastic volunteers showering participants in a kaleidoscope of colors at the finish line.

“It was amazing to see so many students and families come together for a day of fun and fitness,” said Kelly Smith, from Expanded Learning. “The energy was contagious, and the smiles were priceless.”

The event also featured lively music, as well as booths and activities from various community partners, including the Karuk Tribe, the YMCA, the YHS Band and the Yreka Police Department.

“This event would not have been possible without the incredible support from our community partners,” said Lupe Valdez. “Their dedication to the well-being of our students is truly inspiring.”

Organizers are already planning to make the color run an annual tradition, with hopes of attracting even more participants next year.

“We’re excited to continue promoting health and wellness in Siskiyou County, one colorful step at a time,” said Brandon Eller, Siskiyou Family YMCA.
