Eight new fires have been reported since the lightning that occurred over the #KlamathNF

Eight new fires have been reported since the lightning that occurred over the #KlamathNF today, all of which are on the west side of the Forest.

Four fires are on the Scott River side of the Salmon/Scott Ranger District: the Box Fire near Paradise Lake is .25 acres; the Townsend Fire is .1 acre near Townsend’s Gulch; the Yellowjacket Fire on Yellowjacket Ridge is .1 acre; and the Thompkins Fire is .1 acre, up Thompkins Creek. These fires are all staffed. The Thompkins Fire has been called controlled.

Three fires have been detected north of Happy Camp in the areas of Pyramid Peak and Phantom Meadows. Smokejumpers have been deployed to the Pyramid and Phantom fires. A third fire has been reported in the same area – resources will work their way into it tomorrow. Each of these fires is reported to be .1 acre.

Firefighters from the McKinney Fire are on scene of a 2-acre fire near Johnny O’Neil Creek, called the Hamburg Fire.

A reconnaissance flight will occur tomorrow to survey for additional smokes. More lightning is in the forecast for tomorrow.

Please help keep firefighters available to respond to lightning-caused fires – be careful with anything that can start a wildfire.
